Tough, Affordable, and Built to Stay Put
When you need to enclose a yard, a dog run, or a commercial lot without spending privacy-fence money, chain link is the workhorse that does it. River Creek Fence installs galvanized and black vinyl-coated chain link all over Reno County — securing backyards in Hutchinson, fencing acreage gardens outside Haven, and locking down warehouse yards on the edge of Wichita — and we set it so it stands straight long after the cheap installs start leaning.
Chain link gives you a clear, see-through barrier that keeps dogs and kids in and keeps trouble out, with almost nothing to maintain once it's up. You pick the height — a 4-foot line for a side yard, a 6-foot run for the backyard, or 8 feet and up for a commercial perimeter — and the finish: shiny galvanized for the budget-minded, or a black vinyl coating that practically disappears into the tree line and resists rust for decades.
Owner Cody Yoder measures every job himself and spec's the right gauge and post diameter for the use — lighter framework for a residential pet fence, heavier 9-gauge mesh and 2-3/8" posts where security matters. You get one straight answer on price and a crew that hauls off the old fence and cleans up before they leave.
Is Chain Link the Right Fence for Your Property?
Great for
- Lowest-cost way to fully enclose a yard, dog run, or commercial lot
- Galvanized steel and vinyl coatings shrug off rust for 20–30 years
- Practically maintenance-free — no staining, sealing, or board replacement
- See-through mesh keeps an eye on pets and kids without blocking your view
- Goes up fast and works at any height from a 4-foot side yard to an 8-foot perimeter
Things to know
- Offers no privacy on its own — pair it with slats if you want screening
- Galvanized has an industrial look; black vinyl coating costs a little more but blends in
- Lighter residential gauges flex when a big dog leans on them — size the mesh to the job
- Top rail and corner bracing must be done right or a tension run will sag over time
Spec'd for Kansas Wind, Soil, and Big Yards
Chain link lives or dies on its framework, and Central Kansas tests it. We set line, corner, and gate posts in concrete below the frost line so freeze-thaw can't heave them, and we brace every terminal post with a truss rod so the mesh stays tight when a 50-mph gust hits it. Because the open mesh lets wind pass straight through, a properly braced chain link run actually weathers our prairie storms better than a solid panel fence.
We stretch the fabric drum-tight with a come-along instead of hand-pulling it, then tie it off at the right intervals so it won't bow or wave between posts. On commercial and security jobs we step up to 9-gauge mesh, heavier top rail, and 2-3/8" posts; on pet and garden fences we match lighter framework to the load so you're not overpaying for steel you don't need.

Chain Link Fence Installation FAQ
A properly installed chain link fence lasts 20–30 years here. Galvanized steel resists rust on its own, and a black vinyl coating adds another layer of protection while it blends into the landscape. The posts being set deep and the mesh being stretched tight matter far more for longevity than the finish you choose.
Galvanized is the budget choice and looks like the classic silver chain link. Black vinyl-coated costs a little more but resists rust even better, has no sharp edges, and nearly disappears against a tree line or a dark house — most homeowners who care about looks pick black. We'll quote both so you can weigh the difference.
Yes — it's one of the most popular pet fences we install. For most dogs an 11-gauge residential mesh at 4 or 6 feet does the job, and for big, strong dogs that lean on the fence we step up to a heavier 9-gauge so it won't flex or bow. We can also run the mesh tight to the ground to stop diggers.
Not on its own — the open mesh is see-through by design, which is part of what makes it affordable and good for watching pets. If you want screening, we can weave in privacy slats for partial cover, but if full privacy is the goal a cedar or vinyl privacy fence is usually the better fit. We're happy to talk through both.
Most installed chain link fences run about $12–$22 per linear foot here, depending on height, mesh gauge, galvanized versus vinyl-coated finish, gates, and terrain. A standard galvanized residential run sits near the low end; tall, heavy-gauge commercial or security fence runs higher. A free on-site estimate gets you a real written number.
We do. For commercial lots, storage yards, and security perimeters we use 9-gauge mesh, heavier top rail, and 2-3/8" posts, and we can add barbed top arms, taller runs, and heavy-duty drive gates. Whether it's a pet fence in Haven or a fenced yard in Wichita, Cody spec's the framework to match the job.
