Steel Pipe Fence Materials in Central Kansas
Steel pipe fence materials supplied across Haven, Hutchinson, Wichita, and Reno County, KS — new and used oilfield pipe, sucker rod, drill stem, and continuous welded panels. Free estimates and a 5-year workmanship warranty on installs.
Pipe and Steel That Outlasts the Cattle Behind It
When a fence has to stand up to a thousand pounds of cattle leaning on it, wire eventually loses and steel pipe wins. River Creek Fence now supplies the same heavy steel we put in the ground ourselves — new and used oilfield pipe, sucker rod, drill stem, and ready-made continuous welded panels — to ranchers, farmers, and acreage owners all over Reno County and Central Kansas. Owner Cody Yoder grew up around livestock and farm ground, so we stock what actually holds a corral together, not whatever a big-box store happens to have on the rack.
Most of our pipe comes out of the Kansas and Oklahoma oil patch, cleaned up and sorted by wall thickness so you know what you're buying. We carry 2-3/8" and 2-7/8" line pipe for posts and rails, heavier 4-1/2" and larger joints for corners and gate posts, sucker rod for cheap rail and brace material, and drill stem when you want a corner brace nothing will ever bend. New pipe is available too when a job calls for clean, uniform stock or a powder-coat finish.
We sell by the joint, the foot, or the panel, and we can cut and weld to your spec before it ever leaves the yard. Tell us your footage and what you're penning — cow-calf pairs, bulls, horses, or a roping arena — and we'll spec the right sizes, load it out for pickup, or run local delivery across Reno County. Want it built too? Our crew sets pipe posts deep in concrete below the frost line and welds a continuous run that'll be standing long after the deed changes hands.
Is Steel Pipe the Right Material for Your Fence?
Great for
- Welded pipe shrugs off cattle pressure that stretches and snaps wire fence
- New and used oilfield pipe, sucker rod, and drill stem all in one yard
- Continuous welded panels go up fast and leave no gaps for calves to slip
- Steel won't rot, burn, or get chewed — a true buy-it-once material
- We cut, weld, and spec to your footage so you're not guessing on sizes
Things to know
- Used pipe varies in wall thickness, so we sort and grade every joint we sell
- Bare steel will surface-rust — plan to paint or run it raw and accept the patina
- Pipe costs more per foot up front than barbed or high-tensile wire
- Corner and gate posts need to set deep below the Kansas frost line to stay plumb
Why Welded Pipe Beats Wire Under Livestock
Wire fence works until a herd starts using it as a back-scratcher. Cattle lean, push, and rub, and over a few seasons that pressure stretches strands, pops staples, and leans posts until you're walking the line every spring with a fence stretcher. Welded steel pipe doesn't give. A 2-7/8" pipe post set in concrete with sucker-rod or pipe rails welded solid takes the same abuse year after year without sagging, which is exactly why pipe and continuous fence dominate the corrals, working pens, and high-traffic lots out here.
Sizing is where the savings live, and it's where we earn our keep. Lighter 2-3/8" pipe and sucker rod are plenty for rail and brace work; 2-7/8" makes a stout line post; 4-1/2" and up belong at corners, gates, and anywhere a horse or bull will hit it hard. Drill stem is the heavyweight for corner braces that never move. We help you match wall thickness and diameter to the job so you're not overpaying for steel you don't need — or under-building a pen the stock will tear apart.
What Central Kansas Ranchers Use Our Pipe For
From corrals to continuous runs, here's where steel pipe and panel earn their place on a Reno County operation.
Corrals & Working Pens
Heavy pipe posts and welded rails build pens and chutes that take daily cattle pressure without bending.
Continuous Welded Panels
Ready-made continuous panels go up fast for lots and traps with no gaps and minimal post-setting.
Whole-Ranch Perimeter
Pipe corners and gate posts anchor a ranch fence line built to outlast wire across big acreage.
Other Ranch Materials
Need wire, gates, or T-posts too? We supply the full range of farm and ranch fence materials.
Gates & Heavy Corners
Drill stem and large-diameter joints make corner braces and hanging posts that never sag or rack.

Pipe Fence Materials FAQ
Both. Most ranchers around Haven and Hutchinson buy reclaimed oilfield pipe because it's the best value in steel, and we sort and grade every joint by wall thickness so you know what you're getting. When a job needs clean, uniform stock or a powder-coat finish, we can supply new pipe too. We'll tell you straight which makes sense for your project.
We commonly carry 2-3/8" and 2-7/8" line pipe for posts and rails, larger 4-1/2" and up for corners and gate posts, sucker rod for affordable rail and brace material, and drill stem for corner braces that never move. We help you match diameter and wall thickness to the job so you're not overbuilding or underbuilding the pen.
Yes. We can cut joints to length and weld panels, braces, or gates to your spec right in our yard before it leaves, which saves you torch time and welding in the field. Tell us the dimensions when you order and it shows up ready to set.
We do. We run local delivery across Reno County and the surrounding Central Kansas area — Hutchinson, Haven, and out toward Wichita — or you're welcome to pick up at the yard. Delivery cost depends on tonnage and distance, and we'll quote it with your material.
Materials-only steel pipe runs roughly $4–$12 per foot here depending on used vs. new pipe, sucker rod, or continuous panels, while barbed and high-tensile wire material is cheaper per foot. Pipe costs more up front but doesn't stretch, rot, or get torn out by livestock, so it pays back over the life of a corral or working pen.
Bare steel will surface-rust and weather to a brown patina, which plenty of ranchers around here are fine with — it doesn't hurt the strength for many years. If you want it to stay clean, a coat of paint or a powder-coat finish on new pipe holds up well against the Kansas sun and weather. We can advise either way.
