The Fence Crew Sterling Recommends

Sterling sits in the southern stretch of Rice County along the Arkansas River, a tidy college town wrapped in some of the best farm ground in Central Kansas. River Creek Fence builds here often — a straight run up through Nickerson and past Lyons brings us to neighborhoods near Sterling College and out onto the section lines where the homes give way to wheat, milo, and feedlots. We handle both sides of that line: clean privacy and yard fence in town, and tough wire, pipe, and pasture fence on the farms around it.

Owner Cody Yoder grew up around farm ground and livestock, so a Sterling job reads easy to us. We know what a backyard fence near campus needs to look like, and we know what it takes to hold cattle on open ground a few miles out — braced corners, posts set deep, and gates that still swing right after a hard Kansas winter. Every line gets walked with you before we quote it, and the quote is always free.

From our home base in Haven, Sterling is a short, familiar drive northwest, so getting a crew and materials to your place is never a problem. Whether you want a private backyard off a quiet Sterling street, a fenced run for the dog, or perimeter wire on a quarter section, we'll show up, listen, and build it to last.

Local Knowledge

Fencing Sterling Yards & Farm Ground

Sterling has long leaned on the land — it once shipped trainloads of broomcorn east and ran flour mills along South Broadway, and today the area still turns on farming, feedlots, and employers like JACAM Chemicals between here and Lyons. Education anchors the town too, with Sterling College and the local schools, plus Sterling Lake and its walking trail and fishing on the edge of town. That mix of campus neighborhoods and working farm ground is exactly what we fence: privacy and ornamental fence for tidy residential lots, and wire, pipe, and field fence on the acreages and section ground beyond them.

Building fence that lasts in Rice County means building for the conditions. The wind comes hard and steady across this open prairie, and the clay-loam soil bakes tight in summer then swells with the spring thaw, so we set posts well below the frost line and brace corners, gates, and ends heavy. Whether it's a cedar privacy fence near campus or a stretched wire line on a Sterling farm, we build it to stand up to the weather the first time and stay standing for years.

They installed my horse pasture fence and I could not be happier. They listened to my request, offered great advice to improve my design, and knocked down a number of small trees that were a fire threat to make a wonderful pasture. I would absolutely recommend them.

Cody did work on a neighbor's property and it looked great, so I had him come out to discuss replacing rusted-out panels of wrought iron. The quote was more than fair, so we scheduled the replacement. From start to finish it took less than 4 hours and it looks great. Yard and dog are now secure again. Highly recommend.

I am so impressed with River Creek Fence. Cody came out and did a quote — very friendly. He discussed what I wanted and asked questions. It took awhile to get scheduled but it was well worth it. The fence was replaced (cleanup included) in like 4 hrs! The new fence is gorgeous! Highly recommend!!! Photos don't do it justice.

Both town and farm. In Sterling's neighborhoods we install wood, vinyl, and privacy fence along with chain link and ornamental; out on the acreages and section ground we build woven wire, barbed wire, pipe, and field fence with gates. We'll match the fence to your property and how you use it.

Absolutely. Plenty of our Sterling work is residential — privacy fence for a screened backyard, a fenced run for the dog, or a tidy line that fits the look of the older streets near campus. We'll walk the property with you and lay out a fence that fits the lot.

We set posts well below the Kansas frost line, with corners, gates, and braces anchored in concrete, so they don't heave when Rice County's clay-loam soil bakes hard then soaks. We also brace heavy against the open-prairie wind that runs across this part of Central Kansas.

It depends on the type and footage — barbed and woven wire run a few dollars a foot, while wood, vinyl, and ornamental cost more. Our free Fence Cost Guide breaks down real Central Kansas ranges, and we'll give you a firm, free quote on your exact Sterling project.
